Essential skills for confident communication.
It’s easier to engage with other people when you feel present and self-confident in the here and now.
Every day brings fresh opportunities to step into change.
We want to take these opportunities, but we often find ourselves holding back, stuck with an old script, or wishing for different circumstances.
The ability to be present in the moment can make a real difference. This ability can’t be learned from books or social media posts, but it can be learned through personal experience and practice.
So this workshop creates a rehearsal space where you can experiment with ways of communicating that help you to be half a shade braver in the conversation with life.
That’s what playing the scene you’re in is all about.
How to be here & now
We’ll be using practical techniques from the world of improvisational theatre to create a playful and mindful learning space.
The skills and mindset that improvisers use on stage are not that widely known, but they are a great resource for anyone who wants to:
- listen and be present
- connect with other people
- make active choices in the moment
- keep moving through uncertainty
- enjoy more creative flow
What you will learn
By using imaginative, immediate, wholehearted and fun activities we will explore how we show up in the moment, and learn ways of engaging with other people that are more enjoyable and worthwhile.
Participants in this workshop will get to:
- Experience the benefits of calm, centred attention
- Practice including others through open awareness
- Acquire tools for making active choices in the moment
- Learn to listen on multiple levels (self, other, all)
You’ll learn some practical skills and tools you can use immediately, and we’ll explore some tenets of the improvising mindset, like: being willing to share control, trusting your impulses, daring to be obvious, and making your partner look good.
You won’t have to be funny, or fast, or clever. We’re not into that kind of improvisation. There’s some positive energy in being in the moment together and we use to help unlock presence, real human connection and creative flow.
