A compelling way to improvise that feels natural and real.
Let’s make improvisation more compelling by expressing real feelings in the moment.
This full day workshop is based on the training exercises developed by legendary acting coach, Sanford Meisner who taught his students how to ‘live truthfully under imaginary circumstances’.
With thirty seven students nominated for Academy Awards and students like Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert, Meisner was definitely onto something.
What we’ll do
We will explore Meisner’s introductory methods to improvisation (such as repetition and emotional calls) to create simple scenes that are full of interest, humour, surprise and emotional truth.
Some ideas we will explore:
– Don’t do anything unless something happens to make you do it
– Feeling your feelings in the moment you are feeling them*
– Honest observations and emotional expression
– A moment of silence isn’t a nothing
This class is for anyone with 3+ months experience of improvisation or acting. It’s an introduction to these techniques but you could spend years studying this!
