Improv for all ages

Intergenerational improv for parents, children, friends and family.

Legendary Chicago acting coach, Sanford Meisner taught his students how to ‘live truthfully under imaginary circumstances’ using spontaneous, unscripted scenes.

Thirty seven students nominated for Academy Awards says he was on to something. As do notable students like Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert.

Applying his methods to improvisation leads to scenes that are full of interest and emotional truth.

The focus of this workshop is on not acting, and not pushing for anything outside the moment. This creates focused ensemble work and scenes that can be funny, surprising and profound all at the same time.

Some ideas we will explore:

– Don’t do anything unless something happens to make you do it
– What you do doesn’t depend on you
– A moment of silence isn’t a nothing
– Living truthfully is the reality of doing

This is an introduction to these techniques. You could spend years studying this!

This class is for anyone with 3+ months experience of improvisation or acting.
